Christmas in South Carolina brings with it a wealth of ways to celebrate the season and perhaps one of our favorites is the practice of lighting up your own home, either inside or out, with twinkling displays. Most families make a tradition out of visiting neighboring homes and communities to view these displays each year. And while we've featured public, fee-related Christmas light displays in South Carolina that you can enjoy this season, there are countless communities and single homes that really deck the halls, too. There's one, in particular, that's referred to as The Christmas House in Inman, South Carolina, and we think it has some of the absolute best Christmas lights in the state. Be prepared to be delighted at this house of Christmas!
The Christmas House, located near Inman, first started decorating for the holidays in 1973, only a few years after suburban America itself began lining the eaves and more of their homes during the Christmas season in the 1960s.
Aside from the sparkling decor and themed displays, The Christmas House alone is worth the drive. Circa 1884, it was built over a two-year period with timber from the property. The grand home looks beautiful any time of year, but at Christmastime... it's simply magical.
Every year, this house goes all out for Christmas. It's incredible to think that this is the work of just one family! Talk about holiday magic. The sheer number and variety of displays earmark this as one of the biggest single-home displays in the Upstate.
But light displays aren't the only thing you'll find as you drive through the property. The family makes it a point to include a nativity scene each year.
And each year, something new and spectacular is added. As of 2021, there were more than 64,120 lights in this epic Christmas lights display in South Carolina!
You'll want to return to this house of Christmas cheer every year to see if you can spot any changes!
There's no need to get outside in the cold to enjoy the lights at The Christmas House. This drive-through display is clearly visible from your vehicle and you can visit and/or drive through as many times as you like.
Arrive just as the sun sets and you may be treated to an unexpected light show of another kind, too!
Even the Grinch would be dazzled by The Christmas House. Have you seen it yet?
Generations of families make visiting The Christmas House an annual tradition during the holidays -- this house has been putting on a spectacular display for nearly 50 years! And a special group of the homeowners' friends and family make setting up this special display each year a tradition of their own.
Did we mention it's absolutely free? Of course, donations are always appreciated (there's a donation box in plain view). Don't you agree that the Christmas House in Inman, South Carolina has some of the best Christmas lights in the state? We love this showing of holiday spirit!
