The Adorable Children’s Bookstore In South Carolina, The Storybook Shoppe, Is Every Bookworm’s Dream

Once upon a time, in a town far, far on the east coast – almost to the very edge of the coast – there was a little girl who lived with her mother in a small cottage. Her mother was very busy with her new baby brother, and the little girl often found herself immersed in a book, for she loved to read. The trouble was all of the wonderful places and things she read about never seemed to come true in real life, where there always seemed to be problems, people upset or fussing about something, and bad news being shared on the television every day. But then one day she was out with her best friend and her mother, and they entered into this place that they couldn’t believe. As soon as they stepped inside, they just felt … so happy. And there were lots and lots of books! This was the first time she knew that sometimes those fairytales can be real. And this is the story of the adorable children’s bookstore in Bluffton, South Carolina, The Storybook Shoppe, but it’s only the beginning of the story…

The Storybook Shoppe is located in the charming historic district of Bluffton on Calhoun Street.

The owner of the bookstore, Sally Sue Lavigne, handpicks every book, most of which have won awards such as the Newbery and Caldecott Medal, have highly-rated reviews, or are recommended by children’s literature experts.

It's such a fun atmosphere, with special attention given to the placement of "featured" books and the toys that are also offered by the store.

Of course, everything is more fun at the holidays. Whether Halloween ...

... Christmas, or any of the other holidays, you're sure to be delighted with festive treats.

Not to mention, what makes a better stocking stuffer than a really good book?!

The store often hosts various events, such as Storybook Time – this one was at the park, where police officers and firefighters read to the children!

Another time, there was a teddy bear picnic ... what a blast!

And there are always book displays in case you need some reading inspiration.

There are wonderful selections available for children of all ages ... these were chosen with middle-grade readers in mind. But all nature and animal lovers will appreciate this author's work! Mary Alice Monroe is a lowcountry New York Times best-selling author whose work is known for exploring the compelling parallels between nature and human nature.

The shop ships books for a flat fee and offers a neat subscription service called Dragon Drop!
