3 Hidden Spots You Didn’t Know Existed in Caesars Head State Park

There are over 60 miles of hiking trails at Caesars Head State Park. With that many miles of trails, you can bet there’s a hike that matches your ability and timeframe. Many hiking trails in this region were affected by Hurricane Helene, and even though our incredible rangers and volunteers have done an amazing job clearing them, it’s always a good idea to check the updated map to see which trails are currently open before hitting the trailhead.

Silver Steps Trail

The Silver Steps Trail is a short-and-sweet out-and-back trail that runs about three miles total. Since there’s less than 500 feet of elevation gain, it’s a relatively easy trail, considering the difficulty of most of the trails at Caesars Head State Park. You can connect to the Jones Gap Trail from here and check out the 20-foot Silver Steps Falls. It pales in comparison to the majestic Raven Cliff Falls, but it’s absolutely worth it to see both while you’re here.

Geocaching

Geocaching is the definition of a hidden gem, and there are several geocaches around Caesars Head State Park just waiting for you! If you’re new to the hobby, it’s pretty simple: create an account (for free) and start looking for geocaches near you. It’s like a real-life scavenger hunt! Fishing

Fishing might not be the first thing you think of, but it’s one of the best things to do at Caesars Head State Park. Anglers of all skill levels can drop a line in the Middle Saluda River, Matthews Creek, or Julian Creek and see what they can reel in. Possible catches include brook, rainbow trout, and brown trout. A valid South Carolina fishing license is required.

We all want to explore South Carolina’s state parks without the crowds, but that’s easier said than done. There are, however, several ways to increase your chances of beating the crowds at Caesars Head State Park:
