The North Dakota Ski Area That Turns Into A Recreational Getaway In Summer
Frost Fire Park in North Dakota offers year-round outdoor activities, transforming from a skiing destination in winter to a summer recreation paradise.
One of North Dakota’s most popular skiing destinations is also an outdoor recreational paradise in the summer. While some people may think after the lift is shut down and the snowy slopes melt that the fun is over, this particular spot proves you can have fun there year-round. If you’re looking for a fantastic spot to spend a sunny summer day or weekend in the great outdoors, let's visit Frost Fire Park in ND.
One of North Dakota's most popular skiing destinations is Frost Fire Park in the scenic Pembina Gorge. Although winter would seem to be its busiest time of the year, it doesn't die down much in the summer.
After the hills of the gorge go from snow-covered to lush summer green, the park turns from a skiing, tubing, and snowboarding destination into a summer recreation paradise.
Frost Fire Park has everything you could want for a day of outdoor activities. There is even a summer theatre with various shows from June 30th to July 31st.
There are 22 miles of trails that you can traverse on foot, horseback, or on permitted motorized vehicles. They wind through the incredible forests the Pembina River valley holds.
Biking trails are also popular at Frost Fire and you might even see some "remnants" of the ski lifts while you explore, like the arch shown below.
Interested in taking on the river itself? The Pembina River is great for kayaking and people love it.
Did you know that this is also the only place in North Dakota you can go white water rafting? Rentals are available from the park, and it's well worth the trip.
Along with all the outdoor fun, you can stop for a delicious meal inside the park lodge at the Howatt Hangar Grill & Bar.
No matter how you explore Frost Fire Park, whether it be on foot, bike, riding on a horse, rafting down the river, or even waiting until winter to ski, it's going to be a blast - and a memorable one at that.
