The One Annual Winter Festival In Montana Every Montanan Should Bundle Up For At Least Once
SNoFlinga is a free, volunteer-run winter festival in Butte, Montana, promoting winter recreation with over 18 activities.
The majority of Montanans don't hibernate all winter long. We appreciate having all four seasons in the Treasure State. That being said, when the temperatures drop and the snow starts to pile up, it can be tempting to stay inside until warmer weather arrives.
But no matter how you might feel about winter itself, we highly recommend bundling up and heading to Butte on January 21, 2022 for the annual SNoFlinga festival. This is one winter weekend you won't want to miss.
SNoFlinga is a free, volunteer-run, community-sponsored festival.
Designed to promote winter recreation in the Butte area, it has become a beloved local tradition over the years.
It all started in 2015, when a group of winter enthusiasts from Butte got together to brainstorm ways to encourage winter recreation in the area.
And in the early weeks of 2016, the first SNoFlinga was held.
Once a very small event with only a few activities, the festival is now a weekend-long affair with over 18 different activities spread across eight different venues.
The goals are simple: to get people outside, to bring the community together, to encourage people to be active, and most importantly, to encourage falling in love with winter.
Activities range from snowshoe tours and ski lessons to curling, a 5K, and some friendly competitions.
You can try the Polar Plunge at Mountain Con Mine on Saturday, if you dare.
Don't miss the fascinating ice carving demonstration on Friday at Butte High Altitude Skating Center.
The demonstration ends just in time for opening ceremonies at 5 p.m.
SNoFlinga is completely family-friendly, and winter lovers of all ages are encouraged to attend.
Make family memories while learning to love the snowy season.
