A Trip To The Oldest Grocery Store In Montana Is Like Stepping Back In Time

Worden’s Market in Missoula, Montana, has been a thriving historic grocery store since 1883, known for its specialty meats, cheeses, and wine collection.

In 1883, Montana was still six years from officially becoming a state. But that was the year that Worden's Market opened in Missoula, and the grocery store is still open and thriving today.

Worden's Market is located at 451 N Higgins Ave., which is not its original location.

But despite moving several times, Worden's has always been a downtown entity.

Since 1981, the market has been owned by Tim and Exie France, who expanded the inventory.

The business has won numerous local awards since then, including Best Deli.

The piping hot pizza is served late, and it's delicious.

The collection of specialty meats and cheeses is impressive.

They also have a fantastic wine collection from all over the world.

Despite all the modern touches, Worden's still maintains its original historic charm.

The market opens daily at 8 a.m. (9:00 on Sundays).

It feels pretty great to be supporting a piece of local history. And for a real blast from the past, you can always check out one of Montana's general stores.
