It all started back in 1805, when members of the Lewis and Clark expedition were floating down the Missouri River.

Suddenly, they were faced with towering rock formations unlike any they had ever seen. From both sides of the river, limestone cliffs rose to a spectacular height of 1200 feet, seemingly ready to tumble on them. They decided to name the place the "Gates of the Mountains."

These days, the Gates of the Mountains are more beautiful than ever, and travelers love to come look at it.

The Gates of the Mountains boat tour kicks off with a ride on either the Canyon Voyager or the Sacajawea.

Tickets can easily be purchased online ahead of time for a smooth experience.

The 120-minute cruise starts at the marina, located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains between Helena and Great Falls.

The marina is just three miles off I-15, but you'll feel like you're in your own world.

Once you've boarded your comfortable open-air boat, you'll sail through magnificent country that hasn't changed much since the days of the Lewis & Clark Expedition.
