The Forgotten Mississippi Gravesite That No One Ever Visits

Several prominent people are buried in Mississippi. Gravesites, such as those of William Faulkner and Robert Johnson, have attracted visitors from all over the country. Then there are those that are a bit more discreet. Take, for example, the grave of Elvis’ twin brother, Jesse Garon Presley. Marked by a tiny headstone in a rural cemetery, most people don’t even know the gravesite exists. Take a look:

Not many people are aware that Elvis Presley had a twin, but he did. Jesse Garon Presley was born about 30 minutes before Elvis. Sadly, he was stillborn.

The two were born on January 8, 1935, in the now-famous shotgun shack in Tupelo, MS.

The Presleys were extremely poor and couldn’t afford a coffin, so Elvis' twin brother Jesse had to be buried in a shoebox. He was laid to rest in Priceville Memorial Gardens in Tupelo.

The cemetery, where Elvis' twin brother is buried, is located at 691 N Feemster Lake Rd., Tupelo, MS 38804.

A cenotaph (pictured below) was placed at Graceland in Jesse’s memory. Many people mistake the cenotaph for Jesse’s actual grave, but that’s not the case.

Another interesting fact, Jesse’s name is spelled incorrectly at the Graceland Memorial.

Several websites and other resources refer to Jesse’s grave as "unmarked," but that’s technically incorrect. The grave is marked; however, the headstone contains no name.

The tiny headstone that marks Jesse’s final resting place is situated next to the graves of his great aunt, Susan Presley, and great uncle, Noah Presley.

Elvis and his parents are buried at Graceland, leaving many to speculate why Jesse’s grave hasn’t been moved there. Some say it’s because the body is simply too fragile to relocate.

With most family members long gone and the grave’s inconspicuous locale, Jesse doesn’t get many visitors.
