This New Audio Tour Is The Perfect Way To Enjoy One Of Mississippi’s Most Famous Gardens
The Eudora Welty House and Garden in Jackson now offers a pre-recorded audio tour that enhances the visitor experience with nature sounds, music, and narration.
An audio tour has breathed new life into a familiar favorite! The garden at the Eudora Welty House is brimming with beautiful blooms all year long. And now, you can learn all about those blooms (and the famous author behind them) via a new pre-recorded audio tour.
The Eudora Welty House is one of Jackson’s most famed attractions.
Built in 1925, it was home to the famed author Eudora Welty for nearly 80 years! Today, it serves as a museum.
Visitors can tour the interior of the home as well as the home’s garden.
Unbeknownst to many, Eudora was an avid gardener – a trait she undoubtedly inherited from her mother.
In fact, it was Welty’s mother, Chestina, who designed the garden in 1925. For the next two decades, Chestina and Eudora tended the garden together.
Sometime after Eudora’s death, the garden was restored and is now home to many heirloom plants not commonly found in commercial nurseries.
Designed to provide a “parade of bloom,” the garden boasts colorful flowers year-round, even in winter.
A true work-of-art, the garden is an official stop on the American Camellia Society Gulf Coast Camellia Trail and a display garden for the American Daffodil Society.
For years, the garden has been open to the public for self-guided tours. Now, though, visitors can enjoy an audio tour.
Making the already gorgeous garden even better, the 20-minute tour includes nature sounds, music, and narration, which is read by the garden’s former curator.
Can’t make it to the garden, but still want to hear the tour? No problem; it’s available for listeners online here.
Between the colorful flowers and immense history, this garden is a must-see! For more information, call the Eudora Welty House and Garden at (601) 353-7762. You can also visit the attraction’s website or Facebook page.
