Trends in food come and go, but one particular item that always seems to have a cult following is the pickle. Recent menu items have surfaced around the country, in which the pickle is the star — from pickle pizza to pickle ice cream. If you're a fan of this ultimate condiment, and you live in Kentucky, then you must familiarize yourself with Pops' Pepper Patch. This local, family-owned company, based in Louisville, creates unique and flavorful pickles, among other items, and once you've had a bite, you'll relish it forever.
Pops' Pepper Patch began in 1993 when Bob "Pops" Kamman retired and decided to spend his time making infused vinegars, jellies, and eventually other items like pickles. Along with his son, who runs the company now, they created a pickle-themed operation that Kentuckians quickly began to relish.
The company has grown over the past 25 years and now sells their products in dozens of stores, restaurants, and markets across three states. They also now sell their products online through Amazon, and you can check them out here.
While Pops' sells many products, their pickles get quite a bit of attention. Called Habagardil Pickles, they are named after their ingredients: Habanero Peppers, with Garlic and Dill.
The pickles and other condiments are all made and packaged in the company's facility in Louisville. While they don't have a designated storefront, there are many ways to find their products, which we share below.
The pickles are unique in flavor and come in a variety of heat levels. If you don't love spice, go with the Mild, and if you can handle any level of heat (and you feel extra daring), taste test the 30x variety.
No matter where you are in Kentucky, you can get your hands on Pops' famous pickles. In Louisville, check out the year-round Bardstown Road Farmer's Market, and everyone should check out the impressive list of partnering restaurants and shops here.
Once you do get a jar of pickles in your possession, there's no end to how you can enjoy them. Of course, they are delicious on their own, fried up, or in a number of other recipes. You can find Pops' Fried Pickle recipe and others here.
It's likely that Kentucky is home to many pickle-loving people, and if you're not in the Bluegrass State, then hop on the nearest highway. Or better yet, have Pops' pickles and other products (you can even get a gallon of pickle juice!) delivered via Amazon, and you'll soon see why everyone who tried just one bite will relish these Kentucky proud pickles forever.
Pops' Pepper Patch is a true Kentucky success story, and it's all thanks to their spicy pickles and other flavor-packed products. Are you already a fan of these incredible pickles? Share your love for them in the comments and be sure to tag your pickle-loving friends!
