There's a lot of history here in Kentucky, and it's a big point of pride for our state. From the historic neighborhoods of Louisville to our distilleries to our Kentucky State Parks, we live and breathe history here in the Bluegrass. Even our shops and stores are historic, whether it's one of our long-standing general stores, or, as with today's feature destination, a market housed in a beautiful former factory in one of Louisville's oldest neighborhoods. Butchertown Market is a massive market located in an irresistible old factory, and it's easily the coolest place to shop in Kentucky.

One of Louisville's most historic neighborhoods, Butchertown harkens back to the 1800s, when the area was a bourgeoning residential and industrial hub.

Many of its buildings original meatpacking plants and factories remain; the Butchertown Market is located in a former soap factory that hails from the 1880s.

Thrifting can feel like a real-life treasure hunt. You never know what you will find when you walk into a thrift store. It could be a long-lost dish to complete your grandmother's collection or the perfect painting to hang over your fireplace. You may also uncover a treasure so surprising you can't help but laugh; I once dug up a metallic magenta women's suit and had a great time imagining where and by whom it had been worn. There are many fantastic antique shops and thrift stores in Kentucky. Mellwood Antiques and Interiors in Louisville, Kentucky, is an enormous treasure trove with the potential to elevate any thrifter's game.

It opened in 2014 in a space that was once the Fischer Packing Company. Shoppers can explore more than 200 booths and showcases with incredible variety in this huge thrift store in Kentucky.
