This Tiered Waterfall And Swimming Hole In Wyoming Must Be On Your Summer Bucket List
Anyone who has spent time exploring Wyoming knows that there are so many gorgeous trails that it’s impossible to see them all. One hike needs to be on your bucket list, though, and no Wyoming resident or visitor should pass this one up. Today, we’re featuring the Popo Agie Falls trail near Lander, where you’ll find a natural waterslide and a beautiful swimming hole.
The hike to Popo Agie Falls near Lander is just 3.3 miles out and back, yet this trail remains one of the most underrated and under-appreciated spots in the Cowboy State.
The trail is also a bit rocky and requires some uphill hiking. With about 700 feet of elevation gain total, it's not particularly steep, but be prepared to put in some effort.
This tiered, cascading waterfall is particularly powerful in the spring, when the snowpack melts and sends thousands of gallons of water into the gorge near Sinks Canyon.
Once you get to the waterfall, keep walking past and soon you'll find the true hidden gem on this path - a natural waterslide that will drop you right into a gorgeous swimming hole!
Be warned, the water will be cold! No matter how hot it is outside, the Popo Agie is a chilly river. However, this cold-water dip might be just what you need after hiking for a few miles under the sun!
The Popo Agie Falls trail is one of the best hikes in Wyoming, and it’s certainly an underrated summertime destination. To find the trail map and read about current conditions, visit AllTrails, here.
