1. Fiesta Cancun - Wisconsin Dells
A great place for a big group, it's also a fun birthday location. There's plenty to choose from, the flavors are spot on and it's a bit less chain or touristy than the rest of the stuff around it. Located at 655 N Frontage Rd., Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965.
2. Jose's Authentic Mexican Restaurant - Baraboo
A packed parking lot is always a good sign. Jose's offers great flavors that folks continue to come back for. A great place to refuel after hiking around the area. Located at 825 8th St, Baraboo, WI 53913.
3. Tex Tubb's Taco Palace - Madison
This place meshes Tex Mex flavors with the feel and ingredients of being in Wisconsin. Try the sweet potato, cauliflower or carrot tacos for something totally different. Located at 2009 Atwood Ave., Madison, WI 53704.
4. El Sabor de Puebla - Madison
This place is known for their mole, so don't be afraid to get it on everything you order. Located at 1133 Williamson St., Madison, WI 53703.
5. Canteen - Madison
Among the more unusual fillings you'll find here are squash, fried cauliflower, fried farmer's cheese and brisket. Located at

6. El Grito Food Truck - Madison
El Grito isn't listed on the map because it's a food truck, so its location moves. But it's usually a good bet you'll find it around Capitol Square or down State St., so this is a good spot on the list for it. The line will be long, but these folks move fast and it's worth the wait.
7. Taqueria Guadalajara - Madison
Tex-Mex or Southwestern style options are great, as are street food style, but if you wan something more authentic, this is where you go. Aside from the tacos you know and love, they've got tacos with tongue, intestines and other offal, as well as an impressive selection of vegetarian options. Located at 1033 S Park St

8. Tienda Los Gemelos - Madison
A grocery store with a hidden cafe in back, this place is pure hidden gem. It's like walking into someone's abuelita's kitchen. THe prices are low, the food is so flavorful and this chock full platter is the sampler. Folks dig the carnitas and the steak tacos here.

9. Jordandal Cookhouse - Verona
Straying a bit from the mainstream here, but this is scratch cooking at it's finest, with ingredients straight from their farm. If you can start here, do - the breakfast tacos have farm-fresh eggs and are a perfect start to the day. Located at 600 W Verona Ave., Verona, WI 53593.
10. Paco's Tacos - Stoughton
Folks love that there's a locally-owned place bringing new flavors to the suburbs. Located at 135 W Main St., Stoughton, WI 53589.
11. Taco Fresco - Whitewater
Older folks that went to school in Whitewater will be surprised to learn that the food in the area is picking it up. Taco Fresco is a bright spot with a great atmosphere. It's small, so you may have to wait. Located at175 W Main St., Whitewater, WI 53190.
