This Wisconsin Mac And Cheese Trail is the Comfort Food Trip You’ve Always Dreamed Of
We here in Wisconsin sure love our cheese and we’ll try pretty much any method or recipe that allows us to consume a lot of it. If summer is all about summer sausage, cheese and crackers, then fall and winter bring the cold weather that makes me want nothing more than a big bowl of mac and cheese. Warm, melty, gooey, cheesy goodness mixed with some amazing complementary flavors is the ultimate Wisconsin comfort food. Other folks can stick to that blue box – here in Wisconsin our mac and cheese features a variety of cheeses where the flavor of the cheese is the star – no powdered stuff need apply.
There are tons of great mac and cheese spots in Wisconsin, but here are eight spots you could reasonably hit up over the course of a couple of days as you relive a bit of your childhood and find comfort in a cozy bowl of mac and cheese:
You can find an editable version of this trail on

During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.
1. Grate Modern Mac - Menomonee Falls
There are ten different styles of mac on the menu here in small and large portions. It's assembled in front of you before heading into the wood fire to get all warm and melty. Perfection.
Located at N92W16125 Falls Parkway, Menomonee Falls, WI 53051.
2. Uber Tap Room - Milwaukee
This place adjoins the Wisconsin Cheese Mart, meaning you're getting the very best, freshest and most unique cheesy combinations you could ever imagine, all conveniently downtown and with some great beers on tap. It's the very best of Wisconsin all in one spot.
Located at 1048 N Old World 3rd St, Milwaukee, WI 53203.
3. Triskele's - Milwaukee
This mac and cheese feels a bit like a hidden gem. Folks in the know will tell you to add some goat cheese or Gorgonzola for a zesty flavor boost.
Located at 1801 S 3rd St, Milwaukee, WI 53204.
4. The Old Fashioned - Madison
There's little that highlights the best food of Wisconsin that The Old Fashioned doesn't do well. Start with the cheese curds and then double down on your cheesy goodness with this piled high crock that will leave you full and happy.
Located at 23 N Pinckney St, Madison, WI 53703.
5. Monk's - Wisconsin Dells
Most well-known for burgers, these guys had mac and cheese for the little ones and then decided to go nuts on it for the big folks menu. Their concoctions have all kinds of awesome add-ins, like BBQ pork and more.
Located at 3560 Oakwood Mall Dr, Eau Claire, WI 54701.
6. High Rock Cafe - Wisconsin Dells
They call this the big kid mac and cheese and it definitely has hints of that boxed goodness your mom used to make you, but it's been all grown up. This mac is creamy and rich and you won't be sad you stopped.
Located at 232 Broadway, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965.
7. Macs - Wisconsin Dells
Any place dedicated to mac and cheese has a lot to live up to and Macs does it. There are so many weird and wonderful mac and cheese creations here that you'll want to go back a few times to try them out. Or take a bunch of friends and keep passing the bowls around.
Located at 208 Broadway, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965.
8. Appleton Beer Factory - Appleton
This brewery puts a small twist on their mac and cheese - it's between two slices of bread. That doesn't stop the mac from being comforting and delicious, but it does make it a bit easier to eat in this bar setting.
Located at 603 W College Ave, Appleton, WI 54914.
