Our logging and coal mining history has left us with a fair amount of ghost towns. Most of them have been diminished to nothing, others have a few structures remaining and one has been submerged under Riffe Lake for over 40 years. The town of Kosmos has mostly been forgotten now, but it once had 500 people working at its timber mill.
It’s strange to think that you could spend a day hanging out at the lake not knowing that the remains of a city are right below you. Here are a few more things most Washingtonians aren’t aware of.
