This Tiny Mexican Restaurant Is Actually One Of Washington’s Best Kept Secrets

La Costa Restaurant in Burien is a beloved family-owned Mexican restaurant known for its authentic homestyle cooking and exceptional margaritas.

Ask 100 Washingtonians for Mexican restaurant recommendations and you're likely to get 100 different answers. From roadside taquerias to fancy mezcalerias, you'll find a little bit of everything in the Evergreen State, and that's just how we like it. However, there's no denying that Burien's La Costa Restaurant is a top contender for the best all-around Mexican food. This hidden gem has a lot of local love, and it's easy to see why.

La Costa sits at 206 SW 152nd St. in downtown Burien.

Burien is no stranger to good food -- in fact, for its small size, you'll find an abundance of tasty dining options here. But La Costa is a definite crowd-pleaser.

Since La Costa's doors first opened in 1984, it has been a family-owned-and-operated establishment.

It all started with Jaime Ramos, who operated the restaurant until his son, Hector, took over. Hector's brother-in-law Vidal Briseno operated things for awhile, but Hector's daughter, Hilda Ramos, is currently running the show.

At La Costa, it's all about Mexican homestyle cooking, so you'll find all kinds of classic favorites here.

From the street tacos to menudo, pozole, and ceviche, everything is authentic as it gets.

The menu here is actually pretty massive, with several sections dedicated to house specials.

The Chile Relleno, a poblano pepper filled with Mexican queso fresco served lightly battered and crispy, is always a popular option.

Of course, the restaurant serves plenty of easy-to-order items for the novice, such as taco salads and massive nachos.

One thing is certain: you will not leave hungry.

If you imbibe, don't forget to order a giant margarita (or two) to sip with your meal.

The margaritas are all delightful (and rumor has it they're the best in Burien), but the Scratch Margarita is truly exceptional.

La Costa is open daily from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. (10:30 on Friday and Saturday).

You owe it to yourself to come see what the hype is all about.
