Washington’s First Mezcaleria Is Open For Business, And It’s Stunning
The Matador in Ballard has relocated to a larger space featuring a new Mezcaleria back bar.
Mezcal is an agave-based spirit that tastes similar to tequila -- and it's safe to say it's having a moment. Mezcal cocktails are more popular than ever, with many a menu offering some creative options. Recently, one local chain decided to celebrate the spirit by opening a back bar known as a Mezcaleria in their brand new space.
If it's been a while since you've been to The Matador, this is a great time to check out their new Ballard location in Seattle.
The Matador has been in Ballard for years. But recently, they relocated to a larger, more upscale space down the street.
The new building is located at 5410 Ballard Avenue NW, the site of the former Annex Oyster House.
The space and the look may be different, but you'll find the same tasty menu here, plus a few new tempting additions.
This includes the classic Matador Nachos, which have won numerous awards and been the subject of many a late night craving.
Zak Melang, The Matador's co-founder, says the team has put an extraordinary amount of effort into making this new location a fantastic place to dine...
... but the star of the show is definitely the back bar Mezcaleria.
This area will eventually be used to host private events and parties, when current conditions allow. In the meantime, it's a stellar spot for a date night.
While you won't only find mezcal on the cocktail list at the Mezcaleria, we highly recommend trying one.
The Mezcalarita is downright addictive.
Of course, if traditional tequila is more your style you'll find plenty of that here as well.
The Smokey Margarita is one of the house specialties, and it's phenomenal.
The Matador has eight locations in the Northwest, but each one has its own unique flair.
This one feels like a charming neighborhood gem with a touch of modern elegance.
