You Can Now Live In This Historic 100-Year-Old Prison In Virginia

Liberty Crest Apartments in Virginia offers unique living spaces in a renovated former prison with historical significance.

For anyone looking for a totally unique -- and undeniably bizarre -- new home, there are new apartments available in a former prison in Virginia. Liberty Crest Apartments can be found on the site of the former Lorton Reformatory, a prison with an extensive historical background. Take a look at the following photographs; you may be surprised by just how lovely the new units look.

The newly-opened Liberty Crest Apartments are located in Lorton, Virginia, within the very structures that used to house the Lorton Reformatory.

Originally commissioned by Theodore Roosevelt, the Lorton Reformatory was a place for inmates to learn a new job trade.

The cells were unique in that they resembled dorms and offered more natural lighting than the typical prison cell.

The prison closed in 2001 and sat vacant until recent renovation efforts completely transformed the reformatory space into something else all together.

Walking the grounds of the new Liberty Crest Apartments, you wouldn't assume this was the site of a former prison.

Of course, you can still see traces of the historical building, yet granite countertops and new appliances give them an industrial chic feel.

Other amenities include plenty of green space, a fitness center, and community room.

So if you're looking for a living space with plenty of character, you might consider checking out these new units.
