Paddle To A Dam At The Somerset Reservoir In Vermont

Somerset Reservoir is a hidden gem located in Somerset, Vermont. Along with being an unspoiled area to appreciate nature, you can paddle around the 1600-acre lake that’s a dammed part of the Deerfield River. Since Somerset Reservoir is fairly secluded, other perks to spending the day paddling around this special spot include enjoying peace and quiet while taking in breathtaking views.

To get started on your paddling adventure at Somerset Reservoir, take Route 9 West if you’re coming from Brattleboro, Vermont.

You'll find a small launch area at the southern end of the lake to get your canoe or kayak in the water.

While there aren't any known boat rentals at the reservoir, you can easily rent one at a nearby shop for the day.

Part of your adventure will include taking in stunning views on your journey to reach the dammed part of the lake.

Since there aren't any houses on the lake, it'll feel as if you've escaped to your own oasis.

As you paddle around this pristine slice of paradise, keep an eye out for wildlife too. Chances are you'll be able to spot deer, moose, bears, and other animals from the water.

The entire reservoir is about 6.5 miles. Therefore, bring lots of water and sunblock if you plan to head to the dammed area from the boat launch.

And, if you hit the water towards the end of the day, remember to bring your camera so that you can capture the stunning sky.
