This Scenic Drive Runs Straight Through Utah’s Zion National Park, And It’s A Breathtaking Journey
Zion National Park is one of the busiest national parks in the entire country and for good reason — it is breathtaking. From its unforgettable hiking trails to its stunning overlooks, it’s one of the best ways to immerse yourself in some of Mother Nature’s greatest creations. One of the most popular ways to get around this park is the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. However, throughout much of the year, this road can only be accessed on a shuttle. Fortunately, this isn’t the only scenic drive in Zion National Park that is worth exploring. There is another beautiful drive that we can’t recommend enough — Kolob Canyons Road.
Kolob Canyons are located approximately 40 miles north of the main canyon in Zion National Park. You will find it approximately 17 miles south of Cedar City and not far from Interstate 15.
In this beautiful area, you will find Kolob Canyons Road, a five-mile scenic drive where you can experience some of the most stunning views that Zion National Park has to offer.
Kolob Canyons features narrow canyons with cliff walls that are approximately 2,000 feet tall. While you will capture views of these cliff walls as you drive, there are also overlooks along your way that provide incredible vantage points and will leave you impressed.
In fact, you’ll almost feel like you’ve escaped into another world as you drive. While this scenic drive is short, it certainly is beautiful. This drive can easily be completed in less than an hour but you’ll want to take your time as you explore.
As you continue on Kolob Canyons Road, you will also come to multiple hiking trails. In fact, in Kolob Canyons, there are more than 20 miles of hiking trails alone.
For a short, family-friendly hiking trail in the area, lace up your hiking boots and tackle the Timber Creek Trail. This trail is only 1 mile long and takes you to a stunning overlook of Kolob Canyons, Kolob Terrace, and Pine Valley Mountains.
Even better, because the Kolob Canyons Road is far from popular attractions like Angel’s Landing and the Emerald Pools, you won’t experience near the crowds like you will in other parts of the national park. This is the place to be if you want the views as well as the peace and quiet.
To access the Kolob Canyons Road and hiking trails, you must pay the park entrance fee or show an Interagency Park Pass. You can also stop at the Kolob Canyons Visitor Center to learn more about the area and some of the other attractions along this unforgettable scenic drive.
Kolob Canyons Road is one area of Zion National Park that often doesn’t get the attention it deserves. But, this scenic road in Utah is one you won’t want to miss.
