This Weekend Itinerary Is Perfect For Exploring Thermopolis In Wyoming

Think you need tons of money for a memorable vacation? Think again! There are lots of great escapes right here in the Equality State. One such place is Thermopolis. A small town with a lot to offer, it’s the perfect destination for your next in-state getaway.

Boasting incredible natural beauty, along with great attractions and eateries, Thermopolis is, not surprisingly, a popular weekend getaway.

One of the town’s biggest draws is Hot Springs State Park, which is home to the largest mineral hot spring in the world.

The park is a must-visit when in Thermopolis. It’s also a great way to start off a weekend in the town.

Miles of hiking trails wind through the park, making it easy to explore. There are also plenty of benches, so you can easily soak in the scenic surroundings.

But you can do more than visually soak in the park’s beauty. You can literally soak in it, thanks to the park’s free bath house, where the water is always 104 degrees.

After exploring Hot Springs State Park, consider visiting the nearby Star Plunge and Hellie’s TePee Pools. Both water parks, they have indoor and outdoor pools, slides, hot tubs, and steam rooms.

When you’re ready to call it a night, the Elk Antler Inn is a great place to do just that.

Kick off your second day in Thermopolis with a meal at Black Bear Café.

The eatery serves up a classic diner fare, including great breakfasts, burgers, and fresh baked goods.

Continue your Thermopolis adventure with a stop by the Wyoming Dinosaur Center. A world-class facility, it boasts one of the largest and most unique fossil collections in the world.

Merlin’s Hide Out is another must-visit in Thermopolis.

Even if you’re not familiar with the shop, you’re likely familiar with its products. The buffalo robes donned by the main characters in “The Hateful Eight” were custom-made by Merlin’s.

Roughly 30 miles from Thermopolis, you’ll find the Legend Rock State Petroglyph.

A great visit if you have the time, the site features a massive cliff with more than 90 prehistoric petroglyph panels.
