Bluefield, West Virginia, known as the official Christmas City, offers enchanting holiday events and activities from late November through early January.
Did you know that there is an official Christmas City in West Virginia? It's the City of Bluefield, that celebrates annually with a free Holiday of Lights event, which has been a West Virginia staple for more than two decades. But this year's event is bigger and better than ever! So if you want to celebrate the holidays in larger-than-life Mountain State style, then don't miss all the festivities Bluefield is sponsoring beginning on Thanksgiving Day, 2023.
Twenty-five years. That's how long Bluefield, West Virginia, has been turning Lotito City Park into a magical winter wonderland each Christmas.
With a track record like that, it's no wonder they were recently named West Virginia's official Christmas City!
And this year is no exception - except that now, Bluefield's famous Holiday of Lights is bigger and better than ever.
Here's what bigger and better looks like for Holiday Lights in Bluefield:
An impressive 1.2 million lights.
That's a lot of twinkle!
An animated Christmas tree that plays music every half an hour from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Yes, we're serious! And it's loud enough to be heard all through downtown Bluefield.
A Holiday of Lights extension, dubbed "mini Holiday of Lights," that stretches into the downtown area.
You can find it right next to the big, animated Christmas tree.
A larger-than-life Christmas Festival that includes such fun activities as a dog costume contest, an ugly sweater contest, a Santa Claus and the Grinch meet and greet, trolley rides, a holiday market, live music, and more.
There's even gluwhein/mulled cider to drink!
And, to top it all off, Bluefield is pulling all the stops with a giant Christmas Parade.
THIS, folks, is exactly what an Official State Christmas City should look like. Don't miss the fun!
