Washington is a total nature lover's paradise. Even our urban areas have plenty of outdoor adventures that are just a short drive away. But when it comes to the sheer number of outdoor attractions located within a short driving distance from town, the small city of Port Angeles just might be the winner.
Port Angeles is located on the Olympic Peninsula, which is full of nature hikes, fishing spots, and other outdoor adventures.
In fact, the Visitor Center for Olympic National Park is here.
One of Washington's most famous hiking trails, Hurricane Ridge, is nearby.
The 3.2 mile trail offers breathtaking views, wildlife, and wildflowers (if you time your trek right).
Madison Falls is another nearby gem.
Not only is it an easy path, it's short -- just over half a mile "round trip."
Port Angeles is the perfect place for beach lovers.
Hollywood Beach (pictured here) is located by the City Pier, and you're just a few minutes away from the Salt Creek Recreation Area, Shi Shi Beach, Rialto Beach, and all the beaches near La Push.
Love biking? Port Angeles is one of the most bike-friendly spots in the state.
The Olympic Discovery Trail, which is located along the waterfront, has an "Adventure Trail" offshoot for the adventurous mountain biker. You'll also find plenty of bikers on the road all over the city.
On any given day, you'll see plenty of people fishing from the City Pier.
The nearby Elwha River is also a popular fishing spot, and Port Angeles' access to the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Pacific Ocean allows for some of the best recreational shellfishing.
Looking to spend a day at the park? Port Angeles has a whopping 45.
This is the appropriately named Dream Playground, a popular place for little locals.
