In my book, Utah is criminally underrated as a vacation destination. We often hear the word “vacation” and immediately picture sandy beaches, miles of shoreline, and tiki drinks in hand. But what if we went the opposite direction and vacation meant rugged landscapes, hiking through canyons, and embracing the best natural wonders of Utah?

Utah is a land of picturesque red rock formations, multi-layered canyons, and awe-inspiring landscapes. While exploring the entire state in a single day isn’t possible, we did craft an incredible adventure by focusing on the highlights of two iconic parks: Arches and Zion. This itinerary is designed for adventurous souls ready to rise early, embrace nature’s wonders, and make the most of every moment.

Start your day in Arches National Park, where the stunning Delicate Arch awaits. Arrive at the park early to beat the crowds and begin the 3-mile hike to this natural wonder. Watching the sunrise over the arch is a magical experience, as the golden light illuminates the red rocks. Take in the serenity and snap some photos before heading back.

Pro Travel Tip: Bring a headlamp for the early hike, and remember to bring plenty of water. Just because it’s early doesn’t mean you won’t need it!

After your hike, enjoy a scenic drive through Arches National Park, stopping at viewpoints like Balanced Rock, The Windows, and Double Arch. These pullouts allow you to experience the park’s unique formations without adding too much time to your schedule. Make sure you allow plenty of time to hop out of your car and marvel at the magic that is Utah’s natural wonders.
