1. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

There's nowhere better to celebrate America's 250th birthday than one of the places where it all began: Philadelphia. Complete with citywide celebrations, commemorations, reenactments, and more, Philly will be the place to celebrate the birthplace of American democracy. While you're in town, you can explore iconic sites like the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, or do a deeper dive and explore locally-loved places like Reading Terminal Market or Fishtown.

Where to Stay: For the perfect home base, book your stay at Spark by Hilton Bensalem, less than 30 minutes from the city.

2. Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta isn't exactly a hidden gem, but it's iconic for a reason. That rings even truer in 2026, when the city is poised to host the FIFA World Cup in June and July. Looking for other ideas? Catch a show at The Tabernacle, hike Stone Mountain, or explore the quirky bars and restaurants in Little Five Points.

Where to Stay: Spark by Hilton Atlanta Cumberland Ballpark is a great place to unwind and rest before taking on another day of exploring the city.

3. Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque is one of my favorite cities in the West. The historic architecture, cool desert air, and stunning surroundings make this town a bucket-list must, especially in 2026. The town sits directly on historic Route 66, which is gearing up to celebrate its 100th anniversary. And Albuquerque is special because it's home to an 18-mile stretch of the Mother Road, more than anywhere else in the country.

Where to Stay: Spark by Hilton Albuquerque North I-25 is located just off of the city's portion of Route 66, making it the perfect place to celebrate the Centennial.

4. Aspen, Colorado

Aspen is famous for its skiing, but that just scratches the surface of all that this Colorado town has to offer. Whether you're catching some live music at Belly Up Aspen or are hiking through the Maroon Bells, you'll feel completely enchanted by this Rocky Mountain locale. Some of the not-to-be-missed events in Aspen happening this year include the Food & Wine Classic and the Aspen Ideas Festival.

Where to Stay: Staying in town can be pricy, but fortunately, there's a Spark by Hilton Colorado Springs within driving distance.

5. Chicago, Illinois

Every time I visit Chicago, I'm amazed by the sheer volume of things to discover: historic restaurants, parks, boutique shops, trendy cocktail bars, waterfront trails, and so much more. And, pizza being one of my all-time favorite foods, a slice of deep dish is a must. And this year in Chicago promises to be one of the best—the city is the official starting point of Route 66, and the celebrations will include festivals, car shows, and more.

Where to Stay: Spark by Hilton Des Plaines Chicago O'Hare for an affordable and convenient Windy City home base.

6. El Paso, Texas

El Paso is one of the region's most underrated cities. If you've never been, you'll be impressed by the stunning desert landscape, an impressive culinary scene, and the vibrant culture shaped by its location right on the U.S.-Mexico border. During your visit, explore the Chamizal National Memorial, take the famous El Paso Scenic Drive, and enjoy some of the best Mexican food in the country.

Where to Stay: Spark by Hilton El Paso University for a quality night of sleep before your adventures begin the next day.

7. New York City

When it comes to iconic places to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, New York City is front and center. Add to that the fact that the city will be hosting the FIFA World Cup Final, and you've got yourself a once-in-a-generation reason to visit the Big Apple in 2026. Of course, those two reasons aside, every day is an adventure. For a quieter side of the city, head to this secluded trail hiding in Central Park.

Where to Stay: Spark by Hilton Rahway for an affordable city escape.

8. Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Close to Philadelphia, yet a world of its own, Lancaster offers a quiet and authentic slice of American history. Rolling farmland and historic brick buildings set the stage for a charming, walkable downtown. You'll love exploring artisan shops, galleries, and restaurants where everyone is welcomed as a local, even if you're traveling from far away.

Where to Stay: There's a Spark by Hilton located in the heart of Pennsylvania's Dutch Country, giving you another reason to settle in and stay for a while.

9. Tacoma, Washington

Tacoma is often overshadowed by Seattle, but it's a city well worth visiting in its own right. Explore the fascinating Museum of Glass, Point Defiance Park, and LeMay-America's Car Museum. Then, when you're ready for some big excitement, head into Seattle for the FIFA World Cup Matches that will be hosted there this year.

Where to Stay: The Spark by Hilton Seattle-Tacoma Airport promises a convenient and approachable stay for all of your Pacific Northwest adventures.

10. Park City, Utah

Park City won't be hosting any major sporting events this year, but the spirit of adventure and sports is alive and well in this corner of Utah. Whether you prefer skiing down a mountain, hiking up one, or perhaps only joining in for an après-ski drink, you'll quickly understand why so many travelers flock to Park City each year.

Where to Stay: Book your stay at the Spark by Hilton Salt Lake City Airport, less than an hour away, and you can spend some time in SLC, too.
