Nestled in the Black Hills National Forest is a town that's one of the most unique in the entire country.
Deadwood was founded in 1876 during the gold rush. It's been preserved to reflect its western heritage, and draws visitors from all over the world.
Deadwood is so filled with history that the entire town is considered a National Historic Landmark District.
The historic Bullock Hotel still welcomes guests. Sheriff Seth Bullock brought law and order to Deadwood, and it's said that he still haunts his hotel to this day.
The saloon where Wild Bill Hickok was shot is no longer standing, but Saloon #10 is the next closest thing. It's a bar and a museum that's filled with memorabilia from the Wild West, including the chair Wild Bill was sitting in when he was shot.
Mount Moriah Cemetery looks over Deadwood, and it's full of history. Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane and Seth Bullock are just a few of the famous folks who are buried here.
How many American towns still have shootouts right in the street? In Deadwood, the shootouts are staged by talented actors and you can see them three times a day between May 26th and September 22nd.
The historic Adams House continues to preserve the original fixtures, furniture and memorabilia that's been here since the home was built in 1892.
