Why You Need To Visit The Most Rock ‘N Roll Town In South Dakota
Vermillion, South Dakota, is a vibrant town known for its university, music museum, and annual rock 'n roll festival.
South Dakota's towns run the gamut from rural, farm towns to Black Hills towns surrounded by forest, to cities full of art. Here's one of the state's coolest towns - and it has a rock 'n roll vibe.
The thriving town of Vermillion is located in the far southeastern corner of the state.
It's a vibrant community with around 11,000 residents, and plenty to see and do.
Vermillion is home to the University of South Dakota, home of the Coyotes.
With just under 10,000 students, the University's presence here really sets the tone. Vermillion has no problem staying current with this many college students!
The University hosts music concerts...
...and brings a sense of school spirit to the town with its sports teams.
One of the most treasured parts of campus is the National Music Museum, located at 414 E. Clark Street.
In addition to collections featuring some of the oldest and most valuable musical instruments in the world, the museum has a large collection of American guitars. The collection features Martin guitars that were played by Elvis.
You don't want to miss one of the coolest events in Vermillion - the annual Ribs, Rods & Rock 'N Roll Festival.
This annual event includes a car show, tons of live rock 'n roll...
...and of course, ribs! The festival showcases the South Dakota BBQ Championship, with plenty of tasty ribs for the public, too.
This year's festival will be held on September 7th and 8th. Put it on your calendar now!
