With a population of 4,405 in 2021, Belton is a small town located in Anderson County in the northwestern corner of the state, also known as the upstate region. For such a little town, it receives a lot of attention not only as the Tennis Capital of South Carolina but also for some of the food you can eat there. It’s home to two world-famous restaurants in South Carolina, which you’ll want to try if you haven’t yet!
Arnold's of Belton, located on Anderson Street, is a part of the local chain, Arnold's Restaurants, with additional locations in Anderson (the first opened), Powdersville, and Liberty.
Most known for its delicious hamburgers, you'll also find chicken, seafood, steak, and more on the menu, plenty of options for everyone at your table to find something to enjoy. Try the cheesecake for dessert!
The burgers are made from real beef and are hand-patted and made to order on a griddle. If you choose to get everything on it, this includes lots of chili.
The fries and onion rings are also awesome, and you can get half one and half the other if you'd like to have both. You'll experience fast and friendly service as well, along with reasonable prices for your meal.
The second world-famous restaurant in Belton, South Carolina is Grits and Groceries, which has been featured on the Food Network, PBS Travels, the New York Times, and CNN.com.
If you love southern comfort food in a cozy country setting, this is a must-try restaurant for you. It's found at the corner of Due West Highway and Trail Road
Mostly an informal lunch spot, Grits and Groceries also serves brunch on Saturdays. Ingredients are always sourced from within a 100-mile radius, and if the right product is not available, Grits and Groceries makes changes to the menu. So you can count on everything you eat being the freshest possible!
If you're not sure what to order, try Chef Heidi's famous Hattie Mae's Tomato Pies ...
... and some praline bacon, which tastes like candy!
Just be sure to save some room for dessert.
Visit the Arnold’s of Belton website, the Grits and Groceries website, the Arnold’s of Belton Facebook page, and the Grits and Groceries Facebook page for more information and updates. And while you’re there, stop by the historic train depot to meet the eight resident ghosts of Belton!
