1. Pacolet

This quiet South Carolina town is just far enough removed to be the perfect spot for peace and quiet. But in 15-20 minutes, residents of Pacolet can get to Spartanburg for shopping, fun or just to get out. Another option: Croft State Park offers hiking and a chance to change it up once in a while.

2. Six Mile

Six Mile in South Carolina's Upstate is a popular town. It's super close to Lake Keowee and has an active population of approximately 600 residents.

3. Aynor

This quiet little town in western Horry County has busy Highway 501 running through one side of town. For the most part, Aynor is quiet and unassuming. The most recent U.S. Census estimate pegs the population at 667 residents.

4. Bethune

The most recent population figure for Bethune was 352 residents. This small rural community about 30 minutes from Camden is the picture-perfect example of rural living in South Carolina. Farms and homes are spread out well beyond the 1.1 square miles within the city limits.

5. Blacksburg

Home to the Iron City Festival held on the third Saturday of each April, Blacksburg is otherwise calm, cool, and collected. It's a cool 10 miles or so to a little more excitement in neighboring Gaffney.

6. Calhoun Falls

Known as "The Gateway to Lake Russell," the beautiful small town of Calhoun Falls is in Abbeville County and boasts a population of around 2,000 residents. Calhoun Falls State Park is only minutes away.

7. Hampton

The county seat of Hampton County, SC boasts a population of about 2,800 residents. Folks in Hampton love their close proximity to Lake Warren State Park, only a few miles out of town.

8. Prosperity

Pick up the Peak to Prosperity Passage of The Palmetto Trail in this small town in Newberry County. Or, if you prefer, go chill at Dreher Island State Park. Home to approximately 1,200 residents, Prosperity is a quiet South Carolina town perfectly located for finding great places to get out of doors and enjoy the Palmetto State.

9. Holly Hill

Holly Hill, with a population estimated at around 1,200, is widely known as the home of Sweatman's BBQ. Sweatman's makes scores of "Best BBQ" lists each year. But Holly Hill is a quiet, unassuming small town in Orangeburg County.

10. Mullins

One of the most peaceful places to live in South Carolina, Mullins is located in Marion County, about halfway between Florence and Conway. High school sports are a huge pastime here in Mullins. It's a town with a lot of history. Stop by the Chamber of Commerce and check out the old train depot.
