Take A Train Ride At The South Carolina Railroad Museum For A Unique And Exciting Outing

Much of South Carolina's expansion and growth in the 1800s can be attributed to the development of the railways in the Palmetto State. If there's one place in the entire state where you can ride a train just for the sheer pleasure of it, it's in Winnsboro. You'll get a real kick out of the best train ride at the South Carolina Railroad Museum, and here's why...

All aboard the Rockton, Rion and Western at the South Carolina Railroad Museum in Winnsboro. This great train ride and experience is a non-profit volunteer effort to preserve some of South Carolina's extensive rail history. And they do a great job of presenting an authentic hands-on experience.

The train runs Saturdays from June through August, plus special events, like the steam locomotive event and the Twilight Santa Express to name a few...more details are below. You can check the actual schedule on the South Carolina Railroad Museum website.

BBQ Dinner Train: Don't wait to get your tickets for one of the BBQ Dinner trains. They sell out. The BBQ train dinners (and rides!) are scheduled as special events from March through November.

Bring the little ones to the pumpkin patch via a cool train ride on select Saturdays in October.

Of course, you can attend any of these events to just enjoy the South Carolina Railroad Museum rides with beautiful views! You can ride in coach, the caboose, or the open-air car (shown here). Be sure to take a great blanket with you if you're riding open-air during chillier times of the year!

Winnsboro train rides with Santa are a big hit. Reserve early! Both the daytime Santa Trains and the Twilight Santa Express sell out quickly!

The special events are fun, but remember this great experience is available every Saturday from June through August and is a "special event" all by itself. Plus the museum has a multitude of stationary cars for you to explore as well.
