Beat the Winter Blues with a Trip to This Peaceful South Carolina Island

A tropical escape to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina with mild weather and beautiful beaches, is an excellent getaway from all your winter worries.

Sometimes winter can be long and harsh, with very little break from the brutal cold weather — I know that feeling all too well. So if you are daydreaming about getting away to a warm place during the cold months, let me introduce you to one of South Carolina’s best spots: Hilton Head Island. With long stretches of perfectly white beaches, mild weather, and sunny days, the South Carolina coast will make you forget all about the snow.

Leave behind the drab, grayscale hues of winter blues and head to Hilton Head Island when it starts to get cold. Escape to a place where you can dip your toes in the sand once again and watch the peaceful lapping of the waves along the pristine white sand shore. With mild weather during the winter, this is a perfect place to have some fun in the sun. Sure, it isn’t the same as the summertime, but you can bet there will be a lot fewer people when you go.

Hilton Head Island is home to miles and miles of perfect beaches, so you should have plenty of places to watch the sunrise, go for a long walk along the shore, or soak up the sun on a warm wintery day.

Aside from the warm beach, there are plenty of amazing places to explore and visit while you stay on the island. Amidst all the resorts and luxury hotels, there are quaint little spots that you must visit when you go. Coligny Plaza is a gathering place for entertainment, shopping, and great local eats all within walking distance of the beach. The island vibe is alive and well with live entertainment, unique shops, and flavors to match the seaside lifestyle. There is even a cool pirate-themed play area for the kids to play, making it fun for the whole family.

I love it when everything you need for a getaway is all within a few short blocks. It allows you to just park the car and relax without having to worry about a long itinerary of places to go. So when it comes to a place to stay, ditch the resorts and instead book a cozy cottage only minutes away from Coligny Plaza. This 50s beach house has been restored and reminds me of my fond memories of homes in Florida, especially the screened-in porch.

This cottage is a respite from the busy life and offers an invitation to relax. The home, which can sleep up to five guests, has everything you need for a stay, but the best part is its proximity to the beach. With access to the shore that is only shared with 10 other homes, you should have plenty of space all to yourself to enjoy a wintery retreat.

If you are looking to warm up this cold season, make sure to keep Hilton Head Island in South Carolina on your radar. And if you need some more suggestions on how to make this escape even better, check out our itinerary planner.
