13 Things That Come To Everyone’s Mind When They Think Of Portland

Portland's reputation is strong around the country for some pretty particular things. While all of these may not apply to you, these are some common perceptions about us Portlanders that others have from the outside.

1. Portlanders Are Nice

Portlanders have a reputation of being nice. Surely everyone is not nice, but you can definitely expect that people you encounter throughout your daily bustle will chat you up if given the opportunity.

2. We Love Our Dogs

Portlanders take dog-love to the max. Raincoats, sunglasses, and boots can all be seen adorning dogs and they often accompany their owners in stores and on restaurant and bar patios throughout the city.

3. We Really Like Chickens Too

Chickens are our favorite farm animal here in the city, and with everyone trying to homestead, you can see many different varieties in a simple walk around a neighborhood.

4. Goats Are Kind of Popular Too

And then there are goats. While not nearly as popular as chickens, they are fun to spot in urban settings around town.

5. We Are Particular About Our Coffee

Coffee is serious business, and Portlanders are really particular about theirs.

6. We Also Really Like Our Beer

We have craft breweries and festivals galore dedicated to beer. It is our water in Portland.

7. Portlander's Shop Local

Shopping local in Portland is a movement, and farmers markets are serious events around town.

8. Donuts Are King

Portlanders love crazy donuts. Voodoo put our donuts on the map, but many others keep them coming with greats. Whether you like bacon, kid's cereal or a shot of liquor on your donut, we have got you covered in Portland.

9. Food Carts Are Big Too

Speaking of food, Portland has a robust food cart culture that is every bit as great as it sounds.

10. Portlanders Are Near Professional Recyclers

Recycling is part of our nature here, and we take it very seriously. Paper, plastic, food scraps, bottles - we do it all.

11. Expect A Protest

Portlanders are well-versed at protesting. No matter what happens in the world or city, you can pretty much ensure that a protest will occur here in the City of Roses.

12. Brunch Is The Most Important Meal Of The Week

We take this alternative meal very seriously in Portland, waiting upwards of an hour to brunch at the best places around town. We are professional restaurant line-waiters here, and will gladly wait for sought-after food.

13. We Keep It Weird

Probably the most prevalent stereotype, Portlanders live up to the hype. We have an eclectic culture and love to celebrate it any chance we get.
