The Place Near Portland That Makes You Feel Like You’ve Stepped Through A Magical Wardrobe

There are a lot of beautiful places near Portland, but Dog Mountain is really something special. Overflowing with wildflowers come spring, this scenic area will make you feel like you stepped through a magical wardrobe and straight into the land of Narnia.

Located on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge, Dog Mountain climbs to nearly 3,000 feet and features an incredible trail to explore.

The 6-mile trail winds through thick forest and flowered meadows to an old fire lookout.

May is the most beautiful month to visit this wildflower paradise when it is in full bloom.

No matter which way you look, the sprawling Columbia River will be in view and provide a lovely focal point throughout the hike.

The trail is difficult due to its high climb in elevation, but it is well worth it to escape in this magical environment.

The Dog Mountain trail is open year round, but in winter snow typically covers the upper portion of the trail.

Before you go, be sure to purchase a Northwest Forest Pass for parking in the lot and wear sturdy hiking shoes on your journey.
