I Don’t Ski, But the Snow Tubing in North Carolina is Incredible

I was lucky enough to live in Western North Carolina for a few years, and that chapter was filled with unforgettable hikes, camping trips, waterfall excursions, and countless hours soaking in that fresh high-altitude mountain air. The one activity I didn't get to enjoy was skiing—but the next time I return, I plan on experiencing something equally as exhilarating: snow tubing. One of the largest snow tubing parks on the entire East Coast, Hawksnest is your home base for all things winter fun. One of the things that sets this destination apart is variety; there are four distinct snow tubing areas to accommodate all ages and levels. In fact, the minimum age requirement to go snowtubing at Hawksnest is just three years! Of course, small children are required to ride with an adult if they are unable to reach their feet outside the tube to stop themselves at the bottom of the hill.

So, how does it all work? First, you'll want to visit the website, where you'll purchase a ticket for anyone who wants to participate. Then, select a time that works best for you and your crew. On the day of your adventure, you'll gear up for a snow tubing experience you won't soon forget. It's recommended that you wear warm layers, including waterproof, well-insulated clothing, as well as snow boots. You should plan to arrive about 30 minutes early to leave plenty of time for parking and the check-in process before your allocated time slot.

Before long, you'll be ready for take-off! Zip down the mountain at exhilarating speeds as you watch the mountain scenery whirl by you. Then hop on the conveyor belt for an easy lift back up to the top of the mountain. It's a lot like a ski lift, but you'll stay close to the ground as you enjoy this wonderfully convenient "magic carpet." Each session runs for one hour and forty-five minutes. So much snowtubing is bound to work up an appetite, and fortunately, there's an on-site cafe that sells light bites, drinks, and oftentimes, locally crafted beer.

Due to its popularity, Hawksnest is typically crowded, but rest assured that the operation runs smoothly and the lanes keep moving so that you can enjoy as many snowtubing runs as possible. The area does enjoy a healthy dose of snowfall, but the resort also produces its own snow throughout the season.
