One little town that we love has a little of just about everything. Whether you're looking for history, great restaurants, beautiful scenery, or fun things to do, Sackets Harbor has it all. With a population of not even 1,500, it's barely a blip on most people's radars, but it's one of our favorite tiny towns in the Empire State.

This little village in upstate New York is right on Lake Ontario, in Jefferson County.

Sackets Harbor is best known for its role in the War of 1812. A major shipyard was in the area, and two prominent battles were fought there.

Today, you can visit the Sackets Harbor Battlefield to learn about the village's military history. There are restored buildings and signs detailing the War of 1812. You can even occasionally see reenactors dressed like soldiers from the 1800s. You can find out more about Sackets Harbor Battlefield on the New York Parks' website.

Nearby Westcott Beach State Park is another spot you'll want to check out while in Sackets Harbor. This 318-acre park has trails and a lovely beach.

There are more than 150 campsites at the park, so you can even make it a weekend trip!

If you're looking for family-friendly fun, or just love animals, it doesn't get much more charming than Old McDonald's Farm. With more than 200 animals, there's so much to see here! You can even ride a trolley through the farm and take a tour of the milking parlor.

Please note that Old McDonald's Farm is open seasonally and closes each winter. You can check their calendar out at their website.

Feeling a little peckish? Chrissy Beanz Bakery is one of the most charming little cafes in New York. This hidden gem sells all kinds of delicious sweet treats, but also has lunch items like soup and sandwiches.

The Union Hotel was built in 1817 and was first used as a hotel, then later a Masonic Lodge. It's now home to a museum that details the history of the 504-mile Seaway Trail, a National Scenic Byway that runs through New York and Pennsylvania.
