When it comes to scenic getaways that will take you away from it all, the Catskills is one of the best places that you can go. The amazing towns in this region are full of outdoor attractions and friendly faces that will quickly steal your heart. While it's possible to see a variety of locations in the Catskills on just one tank of gas, there's one particular town in this area that's absolutely extraordinary!
Not far from the Hudson River and just north of the Ashokan Reservoir, you'll find the small town of Woodstock in Ulster County.
As of 2010, the small town had a population of just under 6,000 residents.
Between Mill Hill Road and Tinker Street, you'll find an assortment of shops and places to eat that will keep you busy all afternoon.
Travel through the heart of the town along Mill Hill Road and Tinker Street and you'll find all that you need! This is the area of town where you'll be able to enjoy an afternoon of shopping and people watching, with a charming shop waiting for you around every corner. One of our favorite places to stop and check out? Woodstock General Supply! The general store is located right on Tinker Street and features everything from clothes to home decor.
The area has long been a favorite place for artists to come and hide out.
Blink too fast and there's a good chance you might miss one of your favorite musicians or celebrities walking right past you. The remote town is full of life and art, drawing in visitors from your Average Joe to your favorite actors and actresses.
Enjoy Woodstock's small town charm at the Mower's Weekend Flea Market.
Mower's Flea Market is one of the only flea markets still open during this time of year. As long as the weather stays nice, Mower's will remain open for several more weekends. The flea market is a local favorite but is also known to draw in residents from other areas of the state.
If you want to explore out in nature, take an adventure on the five-mile out and back trail at Overlook Mountain.
This spectacular hike is one that is extremely rewarding. Overlook Mountain features a trail with a steady incline that brings you not only to one of New York's remaining fire towers, but also to the ruins of an old Catskills Hotel.
After working up an appetite by enjoying the town all day, stop in and dine at The Bear Cafe on the Saw Kill.
There are plenty of mouthwatering restaurants in town that will grab your attention, but it's The Bear Cafee that we always love recommending to visitors of Woodstock! The cafe sits right on the Saw Kill, giving you a view of the water while you enjoy the cozy atmosphere of this place. Featuring traditional American dishes that are packed with flavor, you'll thoroughly enjoy spoiling yourself with a meal here while you're in town. To view their entire tasty menu, click here.
This isn't the only unforgettable town you'll find in the Catskills! If you've recently visited Woodstock and you're looking to explore somewhere new, then see if taking a trip to New York's Painted Village In The Sky will suit you better!
