This Road Trip To New York’s Most Majestic Castles Is Like Something From A Fairytale

Combining the best of both worlds, this extraordinary experience will take you to areas like the Finger Lakes, Central New York, and out to our Thousand Islands. 1. Singer Castle

For this road trip, we mapped everything out to bring you almost right back to where you started, with the trip both starting and ending in the Thousand Islands! Located out on Dark Island, Singer Castle was one of the last castles to be built out in this region back in 1905. Sitting beautifully on the St. Lawrence River, today visitors can enjoy guided tours of the castle to take an incredible step back in time.

2. Beardslee Castle

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a place you might want to keep in mind for Valentine's Day. Full of romance and amazing to see in person, Beardslee Castle was originally built back in 1860. While the castle has suffered through two major fires, it still is as charming as it ever was. Three stories tall, the castle now serves as a restaurant and features The Dungeon which is used as a cozy pub.

3. Kingfisher Tower

This unique castle is one that's almost a bonus of sorts. If you decided you didn't want to venture out to view this beauty from a distance, you could cut it out of your trip and shave off just over an hour of driving time. Hiding right on Otsego Lake, many people have no idea this 60-foot tall work of art even exists! Sadly, the only way you'll be able to view this beauty is if you drive along Route 31 or have the pleasure of taking a boat tour out on the water. We tend to suggest the latter! Those who decide to hop aboard the Glimmerglass Queen Boat Tours will be able to get a breathtaking view of the Kingfisher Tower.

4. Greystone Castle

Hiding in plain sight in the small town of Canastota (say that three times fast), Greystone Castle now serves as the perfect place for loved ones to have their wedding. The quaint castle was completed back in 1910, but sadly fell into disrepair for thirty years until the 1990s when its current owner saved it from being demolished. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this incredible building's architecture will now be forever preserved.

5. Belhurst Castle

Your last stop before heading back up to the Thousand Islands, Bellhurst Castle will bring you out to New York's lovely Finger Lakes region. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, the stunning piece of architecture was actually once a private residence! Today visitors can come and enjoy an unforgettable stay at the castle, now used as a unique inn and winery that features a breathtaking view of Seneca Lake.

6. Boldt Castle

The last stop on one of the best road trips in New York, this final destination will take you back up to the Thousand Islands. Ending the trip with possibly the most magical part of this adventure, Boldt Castle can be found on Heart Island. Most people who decide to take a getaway to New York's side of the Thousand Islands will almost always make the focal point of their trip Boldt Castle. The entire island is like something out of a real life fairy tale, with romantic and detailed landscaping surrounding the entire castle.
