This Tiny Winery Town in New Jersey Is a Hidden Gem for Wine Lovers

When most people think of the best wine town in New Jersey, Cape May usually comes to mind. And while this coastal spot is indeed a wonderful place for a weekend wine trip, there is another lesser-known winery town in New Jersey where you can also experience trips to beautiful vineyards, upscale tasting rooms, and delicious food pairings. If you are looking for your next relaxing getaway, pack your bags and head to Hammonton.  

Why Hammonton Is a Wine Lover’s Dream

Hammonton is a small town located directly between Atlantic City and Philadelphia. It is about a 45-minute drive from each city, making it an ideal place to get away for a romantic weekend or a fun trip with friends. Hammonton is known for its rich berry production. In fact, up to 80 percent of New Jersey’s commercial blueberries are grown in this quaint place often referred to as the "Blueberry Capital of the World.” There are lots of sights to see in Hammonton, and if you are here for the wine, you will have your pick of places to kick back and sample some fantastic vino. 1. Tomasello Winery

Tomasello is New Jersey’s oldest family-owned winery. It has been in business since 1933 and is now run by its fourth generation. While you can find Tomasello's tasting rooms in various parts of the state, their stunning vineyard is right here in Hammonton. Unwind and enjoy refreshing rosés and unique fruit wines in their on-site tasting room, or enjoy a glass while attending one of their live music or outdoor movie events. The gorgeous property is also a popular place for weddings.  

2. Sharrott Winery

Sharrott is another fabulous family-owned winery that is a must-stop while you are in town. Head to their panoramic tasting room, where you can sample six distinct wines. Enjoy the gorgeous vineyard views and be sure to order a flatbread or small plate from their incredible scratch kitchen. Sharrott even features a special brunch menu. I can't think of a better way to spend a leisurely Sunday morning.  

3. White Horse Winery

White Horse Winery is the ideal spot to spend time with friends or to celebrate a special event. Come and sample some local award-winning reds, whites, and rosé while nibbling on fancy cheese and decadent truffle fries. Take in some live music in White Horse's rustic-style tasting room and enjoy the scenery from the large outdoor deck. As the sun goes down, you can curl up with another glass by the cozy fire pit.

But there is much more to Hammonton than just wine. When you are done hitting the tasting rooms, I suggest checking out the town's walkable historic area, which is filled with museums, a recently renovated theater, and several cool boutiques. And if you are looking for some outdoor fun, consider spending some time at local Hammonton Lake, a fantastic spot for fishing and birding. If your travels take you to town in late June, don’t pass up the chance to visit Hammonton’s annual Red, White, and Blueberry Festival.
