It has been HOT lately and it's not going to cool down any time soon. With these sweltering summer days, I think a few milkshakes are in order. We've got some great places around the state, so why not enjoy several over the course of a day (or weekend)? I've planned out one of the most mouthwatering road trips...and you can adjust it as you see fit!
At around 2 hours of drive time, this is a perfect day trip!
Benny's Luncheonette - 11-04 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn
Benny's is famous for their stuffed sandwiches and over-the-top milkshakes. Their Crazy Shakes are wild and filled to the brim with toppings - Cookie Monster is a favorite. There's also a fishbowl challenge, if you're up for it.
Brownstone Pancake Factory - 860 River Road, Edgewater
Brownstone seems to do everything right but there are two things they do better than almost anyone else...pancakes and milkshakes. They're constantly coming up with insane new milkshakes, topped with everything from entire slices of cake to mini-waffles. A delight for both your eyes and mouth, this is a hip hangout for Instagrammers. #yum
Schnackenberg's Luncheonette - 1110 Washington Street, Hoboken
If you're looking for a good old fashioned milkshake, Schnackenberg's is a perfect pick. This retro eatery also serves up malteds , floats, and egg creams. Nutella Coffee Milkshakes make for a delightful breakfast or brunch add-on.
Left Bank Burger Bar - 194 Newark Avenue, Jersey City
This innovative eatery may be best known for its weekly burger battles and iconic Ghostface Killer Burger (featured on the Food Network), but they also make a mean milkshakes. You'll definitely want to try one of their creative "flavors of the month."
Cookman Creamery - 711 Cookman Avenue, Asbury Park
This indie ice cream shop serves up both traditional and vegan flavors, all of which can be made into milkshakes. They offer a wide selection of frozen treats including medicinal ice cream, cookie sandwiches, and unique flavors like Lemon Ginger Cookie and Blue Lavender.
Coney Waffle - 803 Ocean Avenue, Belmar
Though they offer several locations, summertime calls for ice cream on the beach. Their Side Show Shakes (seen here) are made to be shared and a fantastic choice for one very sweet date night. There are so many amazing flavors to choose from and you can customize your dessert however you want. They also serve scoops in waffles, a wonderful treat.
