First, you'll start with a hike on Roaring Rocks Trail - a 3.6-mile loop trail in the heart of Sourland Mountain Preserve. There, you'll encounter some of the state's most beautiful landscapes without the crowds of some of the most popular state parks. When you're done hiking, you're only about a mile away from the Hillsborough Star Diner - a charming, old-school eatery on the outskirts of the mountain catering to weary travelers looking for some hearty food. It's the perfect way to spend a day in New Jersey if you love nature and good food.

Sourland Mountain Preserve is full of trails, but the Roaring Rocks Trail is one many people may not have heard of.

This 3.6-mile trail connects with the Devil's Half-Acre and Tributary Trail, and is open year-round.

Considered a moderately challenging route, it features easy terrain but has an elevation gain of 587 feet - so bring your hiking boots.

Along the way, you'll encounter some beautiful bodies of water and peaceful trails filled with flora. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
