6. The Ocean Born Mary House, Henniker
This bone-chilling place is home to one of the most terrifying ghosts in New Hampshire. According to legend, Ocean Born Mary was born at sea on a ship coming from Ireland that was captured by pirates. The pirate captain agreed to spare the ship and those aboard it if the baby's mother would name the child after his mother, Mary - and gave the child's mother a bolt of brocade to use to make baby Mary's wedding gown one day. According to legend, the pirate captain came to New Hampshire many years later when Mary was widowed, and she cared for him in his old age. Supposedly he buried his treasure in Mary's son Robert's house in Henniker, and she still haunts the building to protect it.
