This Weekend Road Trip Takes You To 4 Of Montana’s Best Lakes

Discover a weekend road trip to some of Montana's most beautiful lakes for fishing, swimming, and boating.

Lake season is almost upon us once again here in Montana (it's also known as construction season, but that's a whole other story). And if you're like most of your fellow Montanans, you're probably eagerly anticipating days spent fishing, swimming, boating, and lakeside lounging.

This short and sweet road trip takes you to a few of our most beautiful lakes, giving you the opportunity for plenty of warm weather fun in a weekend. Enjoy!

1. Your water-filled adventure begins at Whitefish Lake.

Located just outside the beautiful city of Whitefish, this is a popular spot for boating, water skiing, and fishing.

Enjoy a swim and a lunchtime picnic at Whitefish Lake State Park, which has a great swimming beach.

2. Flathead Lake

Next, make the 45 minute drive to Flathead Lake, one of Montana's most famous spot, and hang out until the inevitable amazing sunset.

The Flathead Lake area is full of peaceful campgrounds where you can pitch a tent and spend a beautiful night under the stars. The Big Arm Unit is one of the largest and most popular camping spots.

3. The next day, make the short trek over to Swan Lake and take in the beautiful views.

Located right next to the town of Bigfork, Swan Lake is a great spot for both lake and fly fishing.

4. Last but certainly not least, enjoy some time at one of Western Montanans' most beloved vacation spots, Seeley Lake.

If you've never been, prepare to fall in love with this peaceful place and the laid back little town.

You'll also find plenty of camping options at Seeley Lake, or you could opt for a cozy cabin at Camp Paxon.

This is the perfect place to end a weekend of lakeside fun.

We love road trip season in Montana. After you've explored these beautiful lakes, check out one of our waterfalls road trips.
