Maybe you've had a hectic summer and you need a little escape, or perhaps you’re dreaming of retiring in the most quiet, peaceful spot you can find. Whatever your reasons for needing to get away from it all, there are plenty of places to do just that in Montana. These 11 remote towns in Montana are a great place to start.
1. Ekalaka
There's not much to the little town of Ekalaka, but it is near the beautiful Medicine Rocks State Park, and it's a nice, quiet place to live.
2. Pony
Pony, Montana, was a prosperous gold mining community in the late 1800s, and the tiny town is still scattered with historic buildings.
3. Sweet Grass
This small town in Montana on the Canadian border is the ultimate place to go to get away from it all.
4. Chinook
Even Chinook's main attractions, the Blaine County Museum and the Bear Paw Battlefield, are quiet. Chinook is located in North Central Montana, and it's a beautiful place to visit or live.
5. Jordan
Jordan was settled in 1896, but it wasn't incorporated as a town until 1951. It's so remote that the 350 people who live there drive the 2.5 hours to Billings to do most of their shopping.
6. Dixon
You'll find Dixon, Montana, on the Flathead Indian Reservation along the Flathead River. What you won't find are a lot of other people... only 216 live there.
7. Sunburst
This pleasantly named town is a pretty pleasant place. Sunburst, Montana, is a friendly community of a couple hundred people that is located just eight miles from the Canadian border.
8. Paradise
Life in this quiet riverside community of 184 people is pretty relaxing. It's also beautiful; Paradise, Montana, truly lives up to its name!
9. Martin City
Martin City is close to the Flathead National Forest, Glacier National Park, and all sorts of other ways to enjoy the great outdoors. It's the perfect place for someone who needs nothing more than nature to be happy.
10. Dell
Aside from the delicious and historic Yesterday's Calf-A (pictured here), you won't find much in the tiny Montana town of Dell. But it does have plenty of peace and quiet to offer.
11. Circle
Circle, Montana, is so rural that it holds the title of the community farthest from the nearest Starbucks in the lower 48 states. If you're looking for solitude and you happen to hate Frappuccinos, this is your place.
Montana’s many small towns are what makes our state so wonderful. And that’s partially due to the fact that small town Montanans are the best.
