In a state the size of a country, with more small towns than big cities, Montana's super-tiny towns somehow manage to stay even more anonymous than usual. You can spend your entire life living in and exploring Montana and not come across its smallest spots. These are just a few of the smallest towns in Montana -- but don't blink, or you'll miss them!

1. Alberton

Alberton is located 30 miles west of Missoula and is the gateway to the beautiful Alberton Gorge. An estimated 428 people call this town home.

2. Gardiner

Many people pass this scenery on their way to Yellowstone… it’s located at the northern entry. But some don’t realize it’s not just a cute tourist trap, but the actual town of Gardiner, population 875.

3. Emigrant

Located about 47 miles south of Bozeman, Emigrant is a charming little town that’s home to about 372 people. It’s also home to several guest ranches and bed and breakfasts for those who want a peaceful getaway.

4. Fort Peck

Fort Peck might be small in population (244), but there’s a lot to see. Fort Peck Lake Reservoir is Montana’s largest body of water and home to more than 50 kinds of fish.

5. Little Browning

Located 90 miles northwest of Great Falls, close to Browning (pictured above) lies the tiny town of Little Browning. With just 206 people living here, there probably aren’t any strangers.

6. Dixon

With a population of 216, Dixon is one of Montana’s tiniest tiny towns. What’s interesting is that women outnumber men here, and only 26% of the residents were married as of 2013.

7. Rollins

This scenic, secluded little town has a population of 209 and lies on the western banks of Flathead Lake. It has become a popular place, and as a result, home values here are more than twice the state average.

8. Martin City

Martin City was a boomtown during the Hungry Horse Dam project, but now it’s home to a mere 500 people. It’s close to the Flathead National Forest, Glacier National Park and numerous campgrounds and wilderness areas.

9. Sunburst

Located just eight miles from the Canadian border, Sunburst is a friendly little community of about 366 people. The town was named after the sun bursting over the hills of Sweet Grass Butte.

10. Trout Creek

Home to about 242 people, Trout Creek is where you live when you want to get away from it all.
