Montana is full of natural wonders, and summer is the perfect season to explore them. We put together a fun little road trip that will take you through some of our most stunning natural scenery. We recommend stretching it out over a three-day weekend or longer to spend plenty of time in nature. You could also easily do this road trip backward, depending on your starting point and where you'd like to end up, soaking in some hot springs or lakeside lounging. When it comes to totally fun Montana road trips, this one might just take the cake.
Enjoy!
1. Lolo Hot Springs
Start your journey with a relaxing soak in the warm natural spring waters of Lolo Hot Springs. Shouldn't every road trip begin by de-stressing?
2. Skalkaho Falls
Next, drive down the scenic Skalkaho Pass until you reach the beautiful Skalkaho Falls. Located in the Sapphire Mountains near Hamilton, the falls are worth pulling over to see.

3. Humbug Spires Wilderness Area
The Humbug Spires Wilderness Area is wild and untamed, just as we like Montana to be. The 3-mile trail at the parking area winds along the creek and through an old-growth forest, so it's a perfect place to step out and stretch your legs.
4. Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park, Whitehall
Start day two of your journey by going way down into a decorated limestone cavern. This time of year, the naturally air-conditioned space is amazing. Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park is an astonishingly amazing natural wonder in MT that you'll never, ever forget.
This brief video by The Travel Channel talks about this amazing cave system with a front-row seat to all its splendor:
5. Seeley Lake
Surrounded by the Mission and Swan Mountains, Seeley Lake is a very popular vacation destination for many Montanans. It's still possible to find some solitude in the area, so don't be afraid to stop and enjoy the lake views.
6. Holland Lake
It's a wonder how two lakes (Seeley and Holland) can be so near each other and yet look so drastically different. The surreal beauty of Holland Lake leaves a lasting impression.
Come along on a family-friendly hike around this incredible lake in Montana:
7. Flathead Lake
Last, but not least, kick back and relax on the shores of Flathead Lake. Not only is it the largest lake in Montana, it's the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi.
