There are many things to love about Michigan but we especially love the coastal towns. While you will find many of these charming communities all around the state, one of our favorites is Petoskey. Not only is this destination gorgeous but in the winter, it comes alive under a blanket of snow. During this chilly time of the year, you'll find beauty, activities, and relaxation in this cozy small town in the Great Lake State.
Petoskey is located in northern Michigan, approximately 90 minutes north of Traverse City. It is home to approximately 6,000 residents.
While this town may be small, there is plenty to see and do. In the summer, this charming community is a delightful place for fishing, boating, shopping, eating, and so much more.
But we are particularly fond of the winter when the town is snuggled under a blanket of snow.
While you can always visit the many shops and restaurants around town, we suggest heading outdoors during the winter. This area is home to three bucket-list-worthy ski resorts: The Highlands, Nub’s Nob, and Boyne Mountain.
If you love snow tubing, I suggest spending a day at Boyne Mountain where you’ll find four lanes, lights, and music for the ultimate winter day trip.
But it’s not just skiing and snowboarding opportunities in the Petoskey area. Outdoor lovers of all ages will find cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking destinations.
Located at 1100 Winter Park Lane is the Petoskey Winter Sports Park, where you can enjoy many favorite winter activities including sledding, outdoor ice skating, and hockey. Even better, you can visit this park for free.
Of course, if you want more of a relaxing winter visit to Petoskey rather than a heart-racing adventure, stay at a local hotel or vacation rental …
… or just explore the area. You never know what winter scenes will await you. We suggest you bring a camera no matter where you go.
Petoskey, Michigan is a cozy small town with so much to offer during the winter. Whether you want adventure or relaxation (or a combination of both!) you’ll find it in this northern Michigan community.
