If you're in need of an escape, the Bay State offers a wide variety of day trip locations. From beaches to mountains, historical sites, and more, this state has so much to explore! If you're looking for the perfect Massachusetts day trip destination, consider a trip to Castle Hill MA at the Crane Estate in Ipswich. Not only is it historic, but it's one of the most stunning day trips in Massachusetts you can take.
Located in Ipswich, one of the best small towns in Massachusetts, this 2,100-acre estate sits atop a cliff overlooking the sea. Its history dates back to 1880 when it was transformed into a gentlemen's farm complete with a modest farmhouse.
Eventually, in 1910, Castle Hill transformed into a country estate similar to what you may find in Europe. An Italian Villa was built but later replaced by a 59-room Stuart-style mansion that still stands on the property today.
While the house is an impressive feature here, so is the rest of the property.
When you come to the Crane Estate for a visit during the warmer months, you will be able to tour the ground floor of the house. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from May through September and only on weekends in October.
While the house is an impressive feature here, so is the rest of the property. Exploring the perfectly manicured gardens and grounds here should be on everyone's bucket list.
Among the most stunning features here is the Grand Allée. This impressive half-mile stretch of manicured lawn sweeps all the way down to the sea.
You can also take a self-guided tour of the gardens or a hike along one of four trails on the estate's property. Reserving passes for the grounds online ahead of time is advised.
When you arrive at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate, have enough time set aside to explore it all. And make sure to bring your camera. This is one picturesque place in Massachusetts you won't want to miss!
