This is Hodgenville, Kentucky. It's a small town of 3,300 smack in the center of the state, just outside Louisville.
At first glance, this may look like your quintessential Kentucky town: small and charming, with a bustling little Main Street district full of local shops and restaurants.
And indeed, Hodgenville is the kind of place you can go to experience a wholesome slice of small-town Americana.
But there's more to Hodgenville than simply small-town charms...
...this little locale is historically significant, in a very big way.
You see, Hodgenville is the birthplace of none other than Abraham Lincoln. Honest Abe was born in a small cabin on Sinking Spring Farm near Hodgenville on Feb. 12, 1809.
While the exact home no longer stands, the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park in Hodgenville features an authentic replica cabin, which was built 30 years after his death, that guests can visit today.
The site also features the beautiful Beaux-Arts neo-classical Memorial Building, designed to commemorate the symbolic site of his birth.
This designated national historic park is a place that celebrates Lincoln's life and legacy, and his connection to the Bluegrass State. It's a bucket-list must, for sure!
Once you've filled up on presidential history, you can go and fill up on down-home cookin'! Lincoln Jamboree is one of Hodgenville's most beloved establishments; this dinner theatre puts on one heck of a country music show each Saturday night, and also serves some of the best Southern cooking in the state!
