The Breathtaking Scenic Drive Through Georgia That Runs Near The Ocmulgee River

Ask 100 Georgians what they love most about the Peach State, and it's likely that you'd get 100 different answers. Personally, I love the beautiful scenery and the rich history you can find all over the state. If you're on the hunt for new ways to enjoy some of the state's most beautiful sights and most historic small towns, we've got the perfect scenic drive in Georgia for you today: the Enduring Farmlands Scenic Byway. This 60-mile trip will take you through Wilcox and Pulaski Counties, right through some of the state's most timelessly charming small towns. It's also not far from the Ocmulgee River, so take a quick detour and enjoy some time on the water. Check it out:

The Middle Georgia region is so criminally underrated. There's a lot to see here besides Macon, the area's largest city, and you'll find some wonderful small towns. Hawkinsville lies right along the route.

The town's population is just over 4,000, and it's best known as the Harness Horse Capital of Georgia.

The city-owned Lawrence L. Bennett Harness Horse Training Facility is a winter training ground for Standardbred harness racers.

Another charming little town on this route is Abbeville, nicknamed the Wild Hog Capital of Georgia.

The town has a lot of well-preserved architecture that makes it feel like a step back in time.

The byway also stretches through Rochelle, a little historic town in Wilcox County with around 1,000 residents.

As you travel along the route, you'll see tons of scenic farmland.

This region of the state has a lot of greenery, too. Keep your eyes peeled, as it's likely you'll see plenty of flowers during the warm months.

For part of its route, the Enduring Farmlands Scenic Byway travels along the lovely Ocmulgee River.

This tributary of the Altamaha River flows through much of Middle Georgia and is a popular spot for fishing and kayaking.
