Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) ranked first nationally with an average domestic fare of $283.42 in 2025. Orlando International Airport (MCO) came in second at $288.67. With the national average sitting at $383.92, travelers departing from Fort Lauderdale saved roughly $100 per ticket compared to the average U.S. flyer—a meaningful difference, especially for families or anyone who flies more than once a year.

Florida's Top 20 Sweep

The affordability doesn't stop at the top two. Tampa International Airport (TPA) ranked 10th nationally at $327.29, Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) came in 15th at $333.11, and Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers ranked 19th at $343.02. Miami International Airport (MIA) rounded out Florida's top-20 run at $346.25.

Six airports in the national top 20—more than any other state. For anyone in South Florida especially, that concentration creates real flexibility. Depending on where you live, two or three of the nation's cheapest departure airports could be within easy driving distance, and a little flexibility on which one you leave from can translate directly into savings.

The Full State Picture

Not every Florida airport sits at the affordable end of the spectrum. West Palm Beach's Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) averaged $359.86 per ticket, still well below the national average. Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) came in at $411.85, and Pensacola International Airport (PNS) averaged $416.73—both noticeably higher than their South Florida counterparts, though still competitive on certain routes.

The pattern largely tracks with passenger volume and carrier competition. Airports with more traffic and more airlines tend to offer lower fares, which is a big part of why Fort Lauderdale and Orlando—both among the top 25 nationally for passenger volume—consistently come out ahead.

Beyond carrier presence, seasonal travel patterns also heavily dictate ticket fluctuations across the Sunshine State. During peak winter months, increased flight frequency from major carriers helps absorb tourist demand and keep regional pricing surprisingly competitive. However, local travelers who book during shoulder seasons—like late spring or early autumn—can often score even deeper discounts off these annual baseline averages.
